National Requirements
The NEHS Constitution sets forth as minimum requirements for maintaining active membership the following:

attendance at the school equivalent of one semester prior to being considered
-
completion of the equivalent of two semesters of English prior to induction as members,
-
the achievement of a minimum overall and English grade point average of a 3.0 prior to induction as members, and
-
submission and payment of the new member enrollment with NEHS (one-time fee).

La Plata Requirements
The La Plata High School chapter of NEHS requires the following each year:
-
acquire a minimum of 30 points through attendance at meetings/tutoring sessions and participation in fundraising and service events
-
submission of membership dues.

La Plata Requirements
The La Plata High School chapter of NEHS requires the following each year:

actively participate in at least one committee
-
submit an original piece of writing to a school sponsored publication or a national contest (details to come from club sponsor)
-
submission of membership dues.
Service Requirements
Service requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:
-
regular attendance of PRIDE time peer tutoring sessions
-
collection of new and gently used books for donation to organizations such as Imagination Library and/or school-sponsored book fairs
-
volunteering or presenting at open-mic events
